Free Microsoft Office Suite

I am totally surprised to read in today's ST that Microsoft will be providing free Office suite next year to all users.

It will be an online version or web-based office suite ie no software is needed to install it on your computer at all. The move is Microsoft's response to the recent announcement by Google to introduce Chrome operating system to compete with Microsoft Windows. In fact, Google already has an online version of office suite named Google Docs for users now.

The two giants are, indeed, competing aggressively to control and command the Internet space (browsers and search engines), Office suite and the online advertising market. As a consumer, I am happy to see the competition to bring about more freebie and new / enhanced useful features in the software. But I also have to expect adjusting to more changes along the way as the "battle" goes stiffer.
